Reality TV

Reality TV started off with a “bang” and was instantly popular with most audiences it reached out to.  These days you can’t turn the television on without a reality show being broadcasted on any channel.  I love reality tv, but it is almost a guilty pleasure.  I feel like some of the reality tv shows have transformed from being actual reality to being staged to a certain extent.  My favorite reality shows include Made, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, True Life, 19 Kids and Counting, Say Yes to the Dress, and many many more!

Reality tv by definition is a genre of tv programming that presents unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, documents actual events, and usually features ordinary people instead of professional actors.  I feel that all of the shows that I enjoy watching fall under this definition.

My concern with reality tv is that too many networks and broadcasters have tried to hop on board the reality tv bandwagon.  There are almost too many reality shows.  With the growing number of reality tv shows, people are beginning to get overwhelmed and tired of them.  I personally get tired of seeing shows that try and try to keep adding seasons of their shows.  Shows such as Survivor, American Idol, Big Brother, and The Real World are getting old and out-done. Time to give up and move on 🙂
